On Friday the 1st April, Nairn Lochloy welcomed its first visitors for 2011. The weather was kind and everyone had a good time. There were some fantastic sunsets coupled with some very high and low tides.
As always there were lots of birds around. There were the elegant long Tailed Ducks on the sea as well as their equally elegant counterpart, the Eider. Overhead the Pink Footed Geese were flying in their organised skeins. On the River Nairn there was a beautiful male Goosander with his 2 girlfriends. A female Mallard was sitting on her nest despite the eggs having been washed away in the Spring tide. And the resident Mute Swans were preparing their nest on the island ready for their family. Keep up with their progress here
Basil, the very good harbour Cafe was open for lunch as always. A fantastic selection of well cooked and prepared food - and only a stone's throw away from the caravans. There is always a nice soup, as well as an ever changing daily selection. Well worth a visit.
The Classroom Bistro is also worth a visit and the food was as good as ever. The Belly Pork is a particularly good dish. The staff are very friendly and always try to do their best for you. It is not the cheapest place in town but is certainly one of the best.
Keep an eye on the Parkdean website as there are always lots of offers. The weather so far has been good and Nairn tends to have a microclimate and get more than its fair share of sunshine. All worth taking into consideration if you are booking your caravan holiday in Scotland.
