This property is about 10 kilometres from A Pontenova, Galicia, on the road to Fonsagrada. It has not been lived in for about 40 years and although it looks very overgrown, the stone is very good and a complete restoration would cost in the region of €100,000. It has fantastic views over the valley and gets plenty of sun as it faces West. It sits in 9000 square metres of land. It has lots of Chestnut trees and great views.
The property has two floors both measuring about 75 square metres. As with many old Spanish properties, the upper floor was the living area and downstairs was where they kept the animals. There is a beautiful bread oven in what was the kitchen and there is also an old forge where a Blacksmith used to work.
There is also a large living space with plenty of restoration opportunities. The windows look out over the view down the valley. There are 2 racks in the corner that were used to hang the Chorizo!!
Although the roof needs replacing, the beams are in fantastic condition and could be easily reused.
The property has a fantastic 'horreo'. These are the typical grain drying houses and the one here is typical of the area in Galicia around A Pontenova. The area adjacent to it would make a great outdoor area. At the moment (December 2011) there are grants available for restoring 'horreos' and bread ovens.
The property also has an interesting curved end wall - something unusual in these old properties. This is the end wall of the area used by the Blacksmith.
The property is accessed down a rough track which is fine for a 4x4. It will need a little work to make it accessible for all cars. Just around the corner is a fantastic casa rural - Casa do Fidalgo, with a bar and restaurant - a nice bonus within walking distance.
